The Fans' Team - FC Rearguard
We are part of the Internet Football Association (IFA). This is a collection of supporters teams from around England, Scotland and mainland Europe that come together to organise matches on an email discussion list with the emphasis firmly on building bridges between opposing sets of fans and playing football in a friendly spirit. Participation from people of all ages, races, genders, beliefs and abilities is welcomed and encouraged. For more information on The IFA, use the link on the navigation bar at the top of this website.
Since forming in May 2003 and playing our first matches in July of the same year, we have used over 100 players from all different walks of life, many of whom had never played for a football team, had given up playing the sport several years ago or had other reasons stopping them from playing regularly. We've had many unique characters (and still do!), including train drivers, procurement consultants, the unemployed, students, civil servants, customs and excise officers to name but a few. The best thing of all - all of them share one main passion - Tranmere Rovers.
Rearguard prides itself on fair play and playing the game in
a good spirit. We've struck up good relationships with many
opposition supporters teams with whom Tranmere fans wouldn't
normally have any reason to bond with, including Huddersfield
Town, Everton, Bury, QPR and many more. This has often seen us
help out sides visiting the region who may be short on players
for matches with several Rearguard players having played for
other teams, sometimes even against us! We've also had our fair
share of players borrowed from elsewhere when we're thin on the
ground ourselves, with lads from alsorts of clubs including
Everton, Huddersfield, Preston, WBA and West Ham United all
pulling on the Rovers shirt for us.
We like to think we have gone a long way to spreading the good
word of Tranmere Rovers around the country and further a field.
As the slogan says; 'wearing the Rovers shirt with pride'.
